Help without frontiers
Help without frontiers is a
non-profit organization whose purpose is it to help Burmese refugees. The Burmese refugees have to flee from the brutality, despotism and inhumanity of the military dictatorship. A civil war, barely noticed by the public, has been ranged in the border area of Burma, now Myanmar, since 1962 and it is directed towards oppressing and assimilating the seven big minorities and over 136 ethnic groups and eradicating their cultures and traditions. More than 600.000 expellees live in refugee camps and provisional villages in Thailand, alone. But more than two million refugees inside Burma are worse off because they flee from the frequent attacks of troops and they find rescue in the jungle which is however difficult to access. They suffer from malnutrition and do not receive medical care nor an education.
Originally designed to be a small and manageable group, Help without frontiers has expanded thanks to the solidarity of many people and the active support and commitment of its members. Today, it efficiently supports projects aiding thousands of Burmese refugees in Thailand and in the jungle hide-outs in Burma.
The President of the Kronberg Group, Dr. Martin Hellweger, who is a close friend of the founder of Help without frontiers, Mister Benno Röggla, has been supporting this organization for several years.
The Summer-Art-Night 2007, hosted by Dr. Hellweger, has been the climax of his charitable activities for Help without frontiers so far: Imagine a celebration attended by successful entrepreneurs from near and far, enjoying exquisite food and drink, beautifully dressed guests, great music and a variety of high-class entertainment. Then, as the mood is at its peak, the party is interrupted and Mister Röggla presents pictures and videos of the refugees of Burma which depict their suffering and fate. He asked for donations, described the work of Help without frontiers and introduces the project – a student home for children of the abandoned Thwee K’Lar school in the refugee camp- which is intended to be financed with the donations of that night.
Martin Hellweger opened the roundel of donations, further donations of the guests followed.
